Now we start my journey for March 2009 again for JJCM column- Pangkor Island trip. From now on we will make this column more interesting and easy to read due to respond that i got for reference especially foreigner that planning explore Malaysia generally.

A little about background/history of Pangkor Island:

"Pulau Pangkor is an island off the coast of Perak in north-west peninsular Malaysia, reached by ferry from Lumut (a small coastal town that links to Ipoh, or from Sitiawan). It has a land area of only 8 square kilometers, and a population of approximately 25,000 islanders. It is heavily promoted as a low-key tourist destination by the Malaysian government, but fishing and fish products remain major industries.

Historically, Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort in an effort to control the Perak tin trade. In 1874, it was the location of a historic treaty between a contender to the Perak throne and the British government (The Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula. Pangkor is famous for its fine beaches and a mix of low budget to 5 star accommodations. Teluk Nipah and Coral Bay on the north west of the island is extremely popular with travellers from Europe. The quality of sand is far more superior in the Pasir Bogak Beach as compared to elsewhere on the island. The sand is golden brown, quite similar to most leading prime beaches.

The name Pangkor may have originated from the Thai word Pang Ko meaning “Beautiful Island”. However others believe it may have been a memorial to Pang Kui, a legendary Chinese adventurer said to have lent his skills in seamanship to the bands of pirates this island once sheltered."

Cost going there: RM140.80 in total that i spent there indluded : Transportation (Return ticket - Transnational bus KL-Lumut-KL (RM48.80), Ferry (Lumut-Pangkor-Lumut (RM10)), Taxi Van - Pangkor Jetty-Teluk Nipah-Pangkor Jetty (RM12)) Accomadation (Ombak Inn Chalet(2nights- RM70)). Let we see how out transportation/accommodation look like:

This is they called "Dutch Fort on Pangkor". Macam dah tak terjaga bagi aku. Perak should do something.

Batu Bersurat (historical rock) - also known as Tiger Rock due to the etching found on this huge granite boulder. "Aku pun tak faham sangat sbb macam dah tak bersurat- dah ada kesan vandalism

One of the attraction " hornbill" just near my chalets. Bab kata org bagi makan kat hornbill ni








Sempat bertanya uncle yang jaga hornbill ni.. katanya lebih kurang 50hornbills akan datang pukul 6.30pm utk makan.. hidup bebas
